Food Donations

When a family doesn't have enough food - the most basic human need - stability in other areas is impossible. At Families Forward, we provide food and basic toiletries to struggling families, helping them get through a difficult period of time. For many families, this assistance is enough to alleviate pressure on tight monthly budgets, allowing them to make their rent payments as they recover and regain self-sufficiency.

Currently, our food pantry serves over 430 low-income families each month. In order to serve these families, the pantry must be fully stocked at all times. Families Forward relies entirely on schools, churches, corporations, community groups and individuals to donate the food that is given to families.

There are three ways to help us feed our hungry neighbors in the community:

1)
Make a monetary donation. This allows us to purchase food from food bank sources for a fraction of the cost of going to the supermarket.

2) Bring your food donations to our office. Monday - Thursday 9am-5pm and Fridays 9am-1pm. We are located at 8 Thomas in Irvine between Alton and Bake, off Muirlands.

3) Request food barrels for larger drives. If you anticipate collecting more than 300 pounds of food, we can provide you with barrels. These barrels are approximately 65 gallons in size and hold roughly 300 pounds of food. To schedule delivery of one or more barrels, please complete the form below. Barrels are delivered on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9AM and 2PM and are subject to availability.

Please note: We are prohibited from distributing expired or previously opened food.

If you have any questions, please leave a message for our Food Drive Coordinator at fooddrives@families-forward.org or (949) 379-8326.

Food Drive Tips and Ideas

  1. Get creative with these ideas to create enthusiasm and encourage participation in your drive.
  2. Encourage your neighbors to donate!
  3. Remind those donating to check expiration dates! We are prohibited from distributing expired or previously opened food to our families.

Other Food Donation Opportunities

    Ample Harvest

Our pantry gladly accepts food you harvest from your own garden! Many local gardeners find they grow more food than their family can use and have no where to donate it. Through Ample Harvest, Families Forward and other pantries around the country are able to get your bounty to those in need.

For more information, you can locate Families Forward at the Ample Harvest

    Volunteer in our Food Pantry

Help us prepare food bags for weekly distribution. Volunteers have a great time stocking shelves, taking inventory, sorting food, preparing bread donations, and helping make the pantry a resource for those in need. This is important work done in a caring, casual and fun environment. Please fill out a Volunteer Interest Form if you are interested in this opportunity. Available times: Mon 9-12, Tues-Thurs 9-12, 12-3, & 3-5
