Programs
Families Forward is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving low-income and homeless families in South Orange County giving their children a chance for a brighter future.
Our mission is to help families in need achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through housing, counseling, education and other support services.
Families Forward assists over 10,000 individuals each year. We are proud of our Transitional Housing Program's 83% success rate in moving families from dependence to self-sufficiency. The services offered at Families Forward include:
Homeless Prevention Services
Families Forward offers a comprehensive array of services targeting families who are at-risk of becoming homeless. Supportive services include:
Career Coaching
Assistance with skills and career assessment, job search, soft-skills training, resumes, interviewing skills, basic technology
education, and job coaching.
Food Pantry
Families Forward has a 3,085 sq. ft. food pantry that currently serves over 400 low-income individuals each month. Our Food
Pantry supplies food as well as baby items and toiletries.
Life-skills counseling
At-risk families may receive counseling and case management services for up to six months in order to stabilize their current
situation and avoid losing their home. Case managers work with clients to improve life skills in areas such as budgeting, debt
reduction, parenting, and stress management. Limited financial assistance may be available depending upon resources.
Referral Services
Families Forward works with a network of agencies to provide resources or services not available at our agency.
Transitional Housing
The most intensive among all Families Forward programs, the Transitional Housing Program utilizes twenty-three decentralized
transitional homes to house homeless families for an average of twelve months. In addition to having access to all of the above
services, families in the program, receive counseling and case management services to address issues regarding childcare, medical
care, food assistance, low self-esteem, unemployment and various other concerns. Critical life skills education is also provided
in topics such as budgeting and saving, debt reduction, parenting or stress management.
Seasonal Programs
Back-to-School
This program supports dignity and self-confidence by providing at-risk children with new school supplies for that all-important
first day of school.
Holiday Programs
Imagine how parents must feel when they cannot give their child a holiday meal, tree or even a gift. To help families have
brighter holidays, Families Forward and caring donors provide families with special festive food baskets through the Thanksgiving
Program and thoughtful, personalized holiday gifts through the Adopt-a-Family Program.
